A family day out on Brittany’s Greenways

Try a different way of exploring Brittany as a family. Enjoy the wind in your hair, knowing everyone is safe, and head for Brittany’s Greenways (Voies Vertes). Hold onto the handlebars and follow the leader!

The Greenways: go at your own pace and take it easy

There are nine cycle routes criss-crossing Brittany, covering over 1700 km. Tip: to ride safely with the family, stick to the sections on Greenways where you won’t be bothered by cars. These routes are reserved for cyclists, roller skaters and walkers (and sometimes horses too). Some of the routes along old tow paths and former railway lines are perfect for a family outing.

So, which route do you choose?

Your mini-athletes up to the age of 6 will feel comfortable on routes where the terrain is smooth and it’s easy to ride bikes with stabilisers. That’s great news for parents too, as these routes are also easier for everyone else following behind.

Children aged between 6 and 12 might prefer more rugged terrain. The Greenways, at 2.5 m wide, are the ideal playgrounds for children to wean themselves off their stabilisers or race each other. These routes are all about sharing and friendliness, so you’ll meet plenty of walkers and other cyclists. Remember to let them know you’re coming with a clear couple of rings on the bell!

It’s four o’clock – snack time!

There are plenty of places to stop for a snack or picnic on the Greenways. It’s the ideal time for kids to refuel in their favourite way – using their fingers! Wooden tables and toilet facilities are available. A few games will perk everyone up, along with some Breton specialties from the picnic basket… everything you need to set off on the right foot!
