Set in 1770, on an island in Brittany, Héloïse refuses to pose for her wedding portrait. Her mother commissions Marianne, a young painter, to make her portrait by pretending she is a hired companion. The film was shot in Brittany on the Quiberon Peninsular and in Saint-Dégan. The film received eight prizes and 27 nominations.

Despite her fragile state and having previously been burned by the German press, she agreed to an interview and photo shoot with Stern magazine. It would prove to be incendiary, and her last before her death.
