Christmas illuminations in Brittany

Five sparkling night-time routes

From the end of November, Brittany lights up in anticipation of Christmas, with rows of garlands, illuminated façades and light displays: six night-time walks for festive winter moments.

In the blink of an eye

1. Dream, poetry and colour

Pont-Aven, from 3 December 2022 to 3 January 2023

When night falls as Christmas approaches, Pont-Aven dresses in its very own palette of colours and lights. An invitation to dream and to discover, the night-time walk takes you through tastefully illuminated squares, narrow streets and façades. The walk continues to the Aven river, with its bridges, wash houses and rocky chaos. A pathway of luminous emotions comes to life against a magnified natural backdrop. And to prolong the magical moment, galleries and shops are open late every Friday and Saturday in December. Let there be light!

2. Dazzling colours

Quimper, Passeurs de lumière, from 2 to 31 December 2022

From early December, Quimper puts on a festival of light, where fire is the main theme. Dazzling Place au Beurre and Place Terre-au-Duc. The cathedral façade is decorated in flamboyant colours for a magical and surprising journey between dreams and imagination. A sparkling introduction to the festivities!

3. Songs to fill the night

Landerneau, from 1 December 2022 to 1 January 2023

For this new edition of Nuit d’hiver in Landerneau, lights, colours and sounds are on the programme. While whistling birds roost in their nests on the front of Saint-Houardon church, Rue de de la Fontaine blanche is decorated with musical notes to the sound of merry Christmas carols. On Pont de Rohan, sound bubbles and whale songs play an original score. At Saint-Thomas’ church, vibration waves are transformed into love songs, a pretext for the blossoming of thousands of hearts… A poetic and luminous journey that will reveal the treasures of the old town in a unique way! This year’s bonus is the “Expéditions lumière” exhibition by Yann de Kersalé at the Rohan gallery.

4. In Beauport, the ruins of the abbey in flames

Paimpol, from 17 to 31  December 2022

Pink, orange, turquoise blue… the atmosphere is mysterious and captivating! Magnified by the flickering candles and surprising interplays of shadow and light, Beauport Abbey projects the wonder and spirit of Christmas. From the cloister to the abbey church, from Salle aux Ducs to the gardens, subtle coloured effects highlight an arch here, a sculpted decoration there… A magical moment to savour, well wrapped up in the biting cold of a December night!
