Springtime getaways : 5 ideas for accommodation in the heart of nature

Spring is here again, with its fill of public holidays! So the one thing you really want is a change of scenery? Then pack a toothbrush and a jacket, and head west. At your fingertips: sea, rivers, rain, sunshine. Unmatched luminosity. To restore balance and energy, so no more excuses … and may the light shine forth!

In the blink of an eye

1.
Tranquillity and simplicity in the heart of Monts d’Arrée

Douarenn – Berrien

Happiness alert! Just 5 minutes from Huelgoat’s legendary lake and forest, we’ve found your haven of peace. Douarenn is the Breton for burrow. No need to be a cottontail, though, to take a break in this particular haven, a light-filled cabin in pale wood, decorated just the way you like it. Inside, natural materials. A suspended net hammock for dreaming the day away or feasting on comic books. Outside, a kitchen garden and 8,000 m² of omnipresent nature. It’s simple and it’s beautiful, just like the welcome you’ll get from Yannick and Cloé. The sea is only 25 minutes’ away, at Morlaix. Let yourself be lulled!

    2. The Petite Tiny dans la Prairie

    Ferme de Kerbastard – Bubry

It stands on organic dairy farmers Linda and Jean-Marie’s land, a stone’s throw from the Blavet river. Alongside the terracotta-coloured bed with its soft pillows, the big window gives you the impression of being outside and inside at the same time. Absolute silence and magical nights in Kerbastard’s tiny house, with panoramic views of the surrounding nature! A perfect blend of modernity and authenticity, right down to breakfasts prepared from the farm’s produce… Top-notch!

    3. A break on the water’s edge

Moulin de Trévelo’s floating cabins – Caden

The sun rises in the midst of the pond. A flight of ducks skims the surface. On the terrace where you’re basking, your breakfast basket has already been delivered by boat and is waiting patiently. This morning at Moulin de Trévelo, near Rochefort-en-Terre, is set to be nothing less than magical: floating among water lilies, these ecodesigned cabins merge into a 100% natural landscape. On today’s menu, a walk along the hiking trail, a session in the spa… Everything lulled by birdsong and the lapping of the water. Trévelo is also a 16th-century water mill, 2 gites, a spacious tent and a gipsy caravan, private Nordic baths, organic and vegetarian meals, and more besides… A truly soothing getaway.

    4. In seventh heaven on the Yvel

    Gîte de l’Oncle Edmond – Néant-sur-Yvel

It’s a green hollow where a river sings… along with the birds. As a couple or alone, you jump in with both feet, not into nothingness but in Néant. The sky in Breton. Soazig and Sébastien are waiting for you in this little hamlet just south of Brocéliande Forest, ready to share their favourite restaurant addresses, markets, excursions and discoveries with you. They’ve renovated this cosy little nest with taste, love and local natural materials, to create the perfect Gîte de l’Oncle Edmond, with the king-size bed you’ve been dreaming of hidden away on the mezzanine. You can say hello to the chickens, sheep and goat, and take a spin along the nearby greenway, towards Paimpont, the pond and the forest, by bike or on foot… Heaven!

    5. Just like living in a mill

Moulin du Pont Neuf – Le Vieux-Marché (22)

The chill-out May bank holiday recipe? Brittany. A valley, flowing water. On the riverbank, a restored mill that’s been in your hosts’ family since the 17th century. You’re in a green oasis 20 minutes from the coast and Lannion, and it’s on this terrace on the edge of the Léguer river that your first barbecue of the year is sizzling away. This gite with its industrial-style decoration contains everything you need to listen to music, cook, or whatever else takes your fancy… All yours from April onwards, the Jacuzzi bides its time – or yours, rather. What happens beforehand? A walk? A bike ride? A spot of canoeing? Introduction to animal photography or white-water fishing…? Here, you really stock up on energy!
