Châteaugiron is a delightful town thirty kilometres southeast of Rennes and has been awarded ‘Petite Cité de Caractère’ status (‘Little Town of Character’). The first fortress here was built in 1008, and the present medieval château’s ramparts and towers are a magnificent sight, while the town centre features some striking timber structures dating back to the 15th century. There’s a water park area for everyone’s use as well as a sports trail and tennis and basketball courts. A new leisure pool has been built in the town itself featuring 3 pools, sauna, spa, steam room and solarium. There’s a walking trail between Glaume and Gervis that passes through a wetlands area right in the town centre, plus sunken footpaths alongside the river Rimon.
