This campsite right by the sea is a great base for exploring the rich natural heritage of the Ile Grande.

The sea is what the Ile Grande is all about, despite the bridge to the mainland! Charming, flower-filled streets wind through town to the delightful ports, and there’s a water-sports centre and a string of islets off the coast. People’s lives are shaped by the tides, the dunes and the marshland, and whilst mankind has altered the landscape, the sea is still its master. Over on the north coast, not far from the bird sanctuary, you’ll see the traces of the old grey granite quarries whose stone covers many a Parisian pavement. The Dourlin campsite right by the sea is an ideal base for exploring the area and you can bring your tent, caravan or camper-van. If you feel hungry, Le Bout D’l’île next door serves crêpes, salads and mussels. At low tide you can walk to the other islets, though you should be careful to keep a close eye on the time and the tide!
