During the French Revolution, it became a port and naval yard, employing1200 dockers. Then, from 1840 on, it became a pleasure garden. Virtually destroyed by the storms of 1987, and greatly damaged by that of 1999, the six hectares of gardens at Montmarin are today, beautifully restored.
