Always presented in immaculate condition with greens that are as smooth as they are quick, La Freslonnière is rightly regarded as one of the very best courses in the region. Designed by Alain du Bouexic and opened in 1989, it makes wonderful use of its considerable natural assets.

Although best appreciated from a slight distance rather than up close when you’re looking for your ball, the magnificent rhododendrons are undoubtedly one of the outstanding features. Indeed, many flower-loving golfers arrange to visit in May so as to see them at their brilliant best. If you can’t make May, the trees put on another spectacularly colourful display in the autumn. With the course winding its way through the forest, the fairways are pretty tight and tree-lined. A splendid chateau that has apparently been occupied by the Freslon family since the 13th century, provides another pleasant surprise – two rooms in the chateau are available for bed and breakfast.
