Musée des Thoniers

The Etel river estuary, which lies in the heart of Morbihan between Vannes and Lorient, offers many hiking routes through its magical countryside. Take one of the walks to check out the unique Tuna Boat Museum and get to the heart of the Etel river through its maritime history. The museum leads you through a series of model landscapes, seascapes, reconstructions, exhibits, photographs, and paintings etc., from the 19th-century sardine fleet to motorized post-war trawlers by way of 1930s tuna fishing sailboats. You'll discover the whole fascinating history of what used to be one of France's leading ports. Guided by sailors and local historians keen to share their knowledge and experience, you'll be moved by the courage of these seafaring men. The museum holds events and exhibitions all year round, including December's famous maritime nativity scenes.
